Oh the weather outside is frightful, but inside Children’s House all is delightful! It’s hard to believe it’s almost the end of 2018 and we have already completed half of the 2018-2019 school year. Each day our students grow more independent as they learn to care for themselves and their environment while learning new skills to keep them moving forward academically.
Most recently, classroom practical life lessons have included washing windows, sweeping with the use of a dust pan, dusting and even using a carpet sweeper. Additionally, students are learning to prepare their own snacks by peeling oranges, coring apples, slicing bananas and spreading jelly. These lessons not only reinforce independence, they promote grace and courtesy and children are invited to share the fruits of their labor. What a wonderful way to promote positive social relationships!
As the year comes to an end, we celebrate the community in which we live. Our students have been making monthly visits to the Bear Creek Assisted Living facility across the street and spending time with our Grandpals. They perform songs, read books to and even share snacks with their new senior friends building friendships and learning life lessons. What a beautiful time.
As we look forward to 2019 with anticipation, we will be sad to see 2018 leave us. We have made many wonderful memories inside these walls at Children’s House and as we grow, we will certainly look back on 2018 with great fondness.
Warm wishes for a healthy and happy holiday season and New Year!
