With the start of the New Year, our children went back to work with great enthusiasm as they reviewed some of their favorite Montessori lessons. This month, we created our own bird feeders to help our feathered friends this winter. Our teachers led our children through a wonderful sensorial journey to help us create birdseed wreaths. Our senses were also used in our Stemscopes lab: Children learned about Antarctica and how animals survive the cold weather by holding ice with and without our lab blubber!
As we strive for academic excellence at home, we should not lose sight of the whole child: As children grow and develop, their ability to sustain attention for longer periods of time increases. Finding the right balance between the intellect and your child’s development is very important. If overlooked, it may create obstacles for your child’s natural joy of leaning. If you have any questions on how to reach a healthy balance, please check with our teachers on the best approach that we recommend for your child.
