MCDS Elementary Teachers and Students: Yesterday the kindergarten and elementary students had a great time at the Mandir. The children were shown a video about this Mandir and how it was built. The stone they used is Italian marble. It was shipped from Italy to India to be carved. Once it is almost complete, it is then shipped to New Jersey so it can be placed and completed in the Mandir. We saw some of the workers using chisels and a small hammer to carve all of the intricate details.
The guide talked about all of the carvings that we saw. Even the pictures were made from different types of minerals! The guide talked about the importance of peacocks in India and how they symbolize peace. He also pointed out that the Mandir was held up by elephants because they are helpful and kind animals.
We had a great time!
