Can you believe how quickly February flew by? The last three months of school always go by so quickly, so let’s get prepared to leave a great impact on high levels of academic learning, balanced with worthwhile activities. We are working harder than ever to achieve at the optimum level. Our students are working diligently in strengthening their foundation through academic and social skills. February has been a very busy month. Packed with holidays and events, from Groundhog’s day to President’s day, and from Friendship day to the Dental Hygiene Awareness month-we have covered it all. Sounds overwhelming, but our south friends took everything in stride, with ease and enthusiasm.
In science, we talked about the importance of oral hygiene and introduced the parts of a tooth and tooth anatomy-crown. We learned about the neck, root, enamel, dentin and pulp cavity. Children enjoyed making models of their teeth using marshmallows and learning incisors, canines, pre molars and molars. We will be talking more about the other internal organs of the human body. We are looking forward to the numerous activities that have been planned around this fun topic.
Grace and courtesy is an integral part of our classrooms. Parents may ask how children in a Montessori class get along so well and are respectful with each other. The answer is, these are learned skills. The children are taught fundamental acts of respect, such as how to navigate around the classroom, respect each others work and space, take turns speaking, treat materials gently and clean up/make material beautiful for the next person. The acquisition of these basic grace and courtesy skills lays the groundwork for a peaceful and harmonious classroom environment, which fosters mutual respect.
