End of the Year Summary

“The unknown energy that can help humanity is that which lies hidden in the child.”

~Maria Montessori

As we near the end of this school year, we look back and see how much we have grown together.  It is amazing to see that we have come so far and how each day has been a wonderful learning experience.  Our children have developed and strengthened in a number of aspects. They are more independent, observant, expressive and are able to verbalize their thoughts and knowledge to their teachers and peers.  They are comfortable with the school and the classroom rules.  They are practicing positive socialization making friends and building lasting relationships. They have grown into thoughtful critical thinkers and problem solvers capable of making good choices and working in a team as well as independently.

“Growth is not merely a harmonious increase in size, but a transformation.”

~Maria Montessori

Most recently we learned about the parts of and life cycles of the ladybug, butterfly and frog. We learned about the process of metamorphosis and we know that means a complete change.  We watched our live caterpillars grow and transform into butterflies while nurturing them before releasing them into the environment.  We also explored the human body and skeletal system. We learned that a full grown human will have 206 bones. Femurs are the biggest bones and stirrups are the smallest bones in our body. In preparation to take our place as a Citizen of the World, we learned about the landforms that make up our planet, the continents focusing on North America and learned all about the world around us.

“The things he sees are not just remembered; they form a part of his soul.”

~Maria Montessori

Our teachers design individualized custom lesson plans for each child based on their needs and abilities.  Lesson plans are a comprehensive look into each child and focuses on skills designed to keep the child challenged and moving forward.  Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, Language, Science/History/Geography/Culture and Handwriting are all highlighted weekly on the child’s lesson plan.  Students have opportunities each day for large group lessons, small group lessons, individual one on one lessons with a teacher and independent opportunities for making choices and practicing lessons for mastery.  This well rounded curriculum is crucial for developing the whole child and our school is dedicated to bringing out the best in every child!

“Such experiences are not just play…. It is work he must do in order to grow up.”

~Maria Montessori

It has been a wonderful and eventful year and we are very proud of the accomplishments our children made throughout the year.  We are looking forward to working with our returning friends and wish the best for our friends that are moving on.  At the same time, we would like to thank all the parents for their kindness and support throughout the school year.  Our summer camp begins on June 20, sign up now!  We have so much planned and the learning never ends!

Wishing each of you a beautiful summer filled with sunny skies and memorable moments,

Chris Booth, Principal
