Preschools in CA and VA Donate Handmade Pillows to Local Hospitals, Police Stations and Homeless Shelters

Students from select Chesterbrook Academies in Virginia and select Merryhill Schools in California donated handmade pillows, or pillow buddies to organizations in their communities as part of a countrywide community service initiative named the GIVE project. For the past six weeks, 28 sister Nobel Learning Communities’ preschools from the East and West Coast came together through the GIVE project by donating hundreds of handmade and individually decorated pillow buddies to local hospitals, emergency rooms, police stations, and nursing homes. The pillow buddies provide support and comfort to those in need of rehabilitation, relaxation or rest.
“Our preschoolers in California and Virginia really worked together to give back in a big way,” said Lauren Starnes, Manager of Education Services for Nobel Learning Communities, Inc . “Our students truly learned what it means to give and their pride and accomplishment radiated throughout the GIVE project. We were able to donate hundreds of pillows and hope that they spread joy and hope to others.”

The GIVE program is the preschool level component of Nobel Learning Communities’ Giving Without Walls program. Giving Without Walls, which is implemented in Nobel Learning Communites’ 32 elementary and middle schools across the country, allows students to be active participants in service-learning opportunities. The program integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and encourage lifelong civic engagement. The GIVE program reinforces these fundamental lifelessons in preschool aged children.
